Defining the GOP
The debates rages - how should the GOP go about rebuilding its party. There are two sides to this arguement currently and I believe that neither side is absolutely correct. The arguement is not being framed correctly. The GOP is facing a dilemna, important factors from each side of the debate need to be embraced ultimately, but not in the way each sides envisions.
On the left and moderate side, the party should expand to include principles and values currently embraced by the left with the hopes of attracting folks in the middle. One of the guiding principles behind this idea is how can a party grow if it goes about diminishing itself by excluding those in the middle? Seems like a good idea at a glance.
Others believe that the GOP should retract and fine tune its definition and if necessary trim off the outer layers like Arlen Spector and Colin Powell who have defected the party anyway. They argue that the party has been trying to cator to the moderate left voice and look where it has taken the party, John McCain being a grand example of this failure. It seems to me that it should be clear that moving the GOP to the left has not worked well in the past.
So what do we do?
The GOP needs to expand its base by promoting values that will encourage people in the middle to move towards the party. I believe that it has been, and will continue to be, a mistake to try to move the GOP to the left attempting to appease the moderates with hope that they will move to the right. The Dilemna is this, the GOP needs to do both, it needs to trim off moderate and left aspects that currently dilute the party, temporarily reducing the party to its core if need be, and then grow the party based on core values that promote true unfettered conservatism.
If the GOP will define its values and clearly state its principles, based on basic true conservativism, the party will grow and people will come to the party. At first the party may appear to shrink and decline as layers of the current party spin off, but this isn’t a bad thing, these layers are the reason why the GOP does not have a clear vision and strong principled message. The GOP can not grow when its core is corrupt.
The GOP Debate suffers from not understanding that the party will grow if it first cleans it house.
In addition to the GOP debate there is another problem. If and when the GOP gets around to spreading its newly found message it will be immediately handicapped. The mainstream media, academic institutions and entertainment industries are virtually owned by progressive liberalism. With the exception of Fox News and AM radio the overwhelming majority of information is biased to the left.
The GOP needs to recognize that not only do they need to clean up and define a new clean direction, they need to attack the information construct that works tirelessly to deny conservatism. Fact is I would argue that it is *more* important for the GOP to fight back against the liberal bias in our news media, schools and entertainment industries, then it is trying to create some magical new party.
If the political correct liberal bias that poisons America can be eliminated or greatly reduced the conservative principles of the GOP will shine through just fine. Folks who have been brainwashed by the left will naturally gravitate to the right once they are allowed to see the right.
In summary - the GOP needs to define itself clearly as the party of conservativism, cleaning out debris if needed along the way, and then the GOP MUST go after the liberal bias that poisons America if it hopes to get its message out.
